See how the DreamCloud stacks up against other hybrid bed mattress!

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly high profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and covered coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a company innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.

Given all the different products at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they connect with one another.

DreamCloud Cover

Close up of the cover of the DreamCloud

Cover– The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers– Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and offer some rewarding sinkage, they likewise respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress.

The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature policy of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in basic is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations motivates even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils– The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support area of the mattress, which is comprised of a pocketed coil system. These individually covered springs give the bed exceptional bounce and assistance to distribute motion throughout the structure.

The coils likewise aid in managing temperature as the areas in between them permit constant air circulation.

Foundation Layer– A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the primary function of nestling the pocketed coils and supplying a sound structure for the whole.

After taking a look at the building and construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I began by using light hand pressure to the mattress and right away felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers.

My hand sunk into the product and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to communicate with the pocketed coils listed below and experienced an enjoyable lift from the springs.

At this moment I want to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness in a different way. Rather than offering just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I employed three other people to give their opinion. This will provide you a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud Firmness Test

Revealing the firmness ratings of the DreamCloud from 4 testers

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in arrangement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a typical rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market requirement of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a strong bed. While you’ll feel some minor sinking from the plush foam leading layers, the separately covered coils in the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Instead of simply explaining the feel of the dreamcloud mattress vs nectar to you, I wanted to offer a graph of where somebody might feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and rested on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back– As soon as on my back, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t seem like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover offered quality relief at my back region and the stolen coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spinal column in positioning.

Side– As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. I still felt supported and the leading foam layers relieved exactly what pain I felt in this position.

Stomach– Changing over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of raising my hips up and out of the bed, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should point out that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know exactly what it’ll feel like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is planned to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To highlight this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

Results for the movement transfer test with a 10 pound ball dropped from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches.

The DreamCloud shows a percentage of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I ‘d still think about the mattress to be respectable at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not most likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight vibrates, which makes this an excellent alternative for couples.

When purchasing a brand-new bed, many people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To envision this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound conditioning ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured just how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are suggested to imitate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

DreamCloud Sinkage Test

The sinkage test on a DreamCloud mattress with balls weighing 6 pounds, 10 lbs, 50 pounds and 100 lbs.

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
50 pound conditioning ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a wide variety of sleepers, but will please back and stomach sleepers in specific.

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and have to use the entire area of the mattress, it’s going to be essential for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m specifically interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that cannot live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring designs.

DreamCloud Edge Supprt Back

Resting on my back near the side of the DreamCloud

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the fact that of the top foam layers, but absolutely nothing too remarkable.

DreamCloud Edge Support Side

Pushing my side near the edge of the DreamCloud

Moving to my side, I as soon as again noticed compression in the foam layers, however it didn’t rollover into the wrapped coil system listed below.

This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great task of supporting my weight.

DreamCloud Edge Support Seated

Sitting on the edge of the DreamCloud mattress

In this position, I wished to simulate what it would seem like to be resting on the bed in the early morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and preparing for the day. A great deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, however the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
