See how the DreamCloud stacks up against other hybrid mattresses!

The DreamCloud includes an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a tremendous 15 inches. The eight-layer building and construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil elements, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.

Provided all the different products at play here, I’m stired to dive into these layers to see how well they engage with one another.

DreamCloud Cover

Close up of the cover of the DreamCloud

Cover– The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers– Below the cover, you’ll discover 3 thin layers of foam. While these areas are soft to the touch and provide some gratifying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you will not feel stuck in the mattress.

The middle of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s consisted of perforated latex foam. Latex in basic is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations motivates a lot more cooling.

Pocketed Coils– The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is comprised of a pocketed coil system. These individually covered springs give the bed excellent bounce and aid to disperse movement throughout the structure.

The coils also aid in controling temperature as the areas in between them enable consistent air circulation.

Foundation Layer– A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main function of nestling the filched coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire.

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and leading layers.

My hand sunk into the material and I might feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in even more, I started to connect with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this moment I ‘d like to note that people of different physique and shapes will feel firmness differently. Instead of offering just my viewpoint on the total firmness level of the DreamCloud, I got 3 other people to provide their opinion as well.

This will offer you a much better sense of the firmness variety you can get out of the mattress.

DreamCloud Firmness Test

Revealing the firmness ratings of the DreamCloud from 4 testers

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were practically in arrangement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a typical score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the remainder of the testers that it’s absolutely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some minor sinking from the luxurious foam top layers, the separately wrapped coils in the core will raise you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Instead of just explaining the feel of the dreamcloud mattress foundation to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I positioned a pressure map on top of the mattress and rested on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image listed below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

DreamCloud Pressure Map

Revealing the pressure map results for the DreamCLoud

Back– When on my back, my weight was evenly dispersed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side– As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. I still felt supported and the leading foam layers relieved what pain I felt in this position.

Stomach– Changing over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a terrific task of raising my hips up and from the bed, which is essential for stomach sleepers. I ought to mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it’ll seem like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the early morning or tosses around in the evening. This next test is intended to show the strength of movement that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disruption it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Results for the movement transfer test with a 10 lb ball dropped from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches.

The DreamCloud shows a percentage of disruption for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I ‘d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the separately covered coils. This implies you’re not most likely to be too interrupted by your bed mate’s midnight vibrates, makings this an excellent choice for couples.

When buying a brand-new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll seem like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on the top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of differing sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb conditioning ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are implied to imitate different body parts and various sized sleepers.

DreamCloud Sinkage Test

The sinkage test on a DreamCloud mattress with balls weighing 6 pounds, 10 lbs, 50 pounds and 100 lbs.

6 pound medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 pound steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
50 lb conditioning ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll strike the wrapped coils and feel wonderful support. This combo will interest a large range of sleepers, however will please back and stomach sleepers in specific.

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the whole area of the mattress, it’s going to be important for you to think about the quantity of edge support it’ll supply.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the very same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring designs.

DreamCloud Edge Supprt Back

Pushing my back near the side of the DreamCloud

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the. Pushing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the fact that of the top foam layers, but nothing too significant.

DreamCloud Edge Support Side

Pushing my side near the edge of the DreamCloud

Shifting to my side, I when again observed compression in the foam layers, however it didn’t rollover into the wrapped coil system listed below.

This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did an excellent job of supporting my weight.

DreamCloud Edge Support Seated

Resting on the edge of the DreamCloud mattress

In this position, I wanted to imitate exactly what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the early morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A great deal of foam bed mattress experience serious compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up relatively well.
