See how the DreamCloud stacks up against other hybrid mattresses!

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly high profile for a mattress at a tremendous 15 inches. The eight-layer building and construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a company innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Offered all the different materials at play here, I’m stired to dive into these layers to see how well they engage with one another.

DreamCloud Cover

Close up of the cover of the DreamCloud

Cover– The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers– Below the cover, you’ll discover 3 thin layers of foam. While these areas are soft to the touch and offer some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress.

The middle of these three layers is particularly crucial for the temperature guideline of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is excellent at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations motivates much more cooling.

Pocketed Coils– The bottom layer of foam shifts into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually covered springs provide the bed outstanding bounce and aid to disperse movement throughout the structure.

The coils also help in controling temperature as the spaces between them enable constant air circulation.

Foundation Layer– A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the primary function of nestling the taken coils and supplying a sound foundation for the whole.

After taking a look at the building and construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I began by using light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and leading layers.

My hand sunk into the product and I might feel some immediate pressure relief. Pressing in further, I began to interact with the taken coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this moment I ‘d like to keep in mind that people of various physique and shapes will feel firmness in a different way. Instead of giving simply my viewpoint on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I got three other people to give their opinion as well.

This will offer you a better sense of the firmness variety you can get out of the mattress.

DreamCloud Firmness Test

Revealing the firmness rankings of the DreamCloud from four testers

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market requirement of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally offered the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s certainly a solid bed. While you’ll feel some minor sinking from the plush foam top layers, the separately covered coils in the core will raise you out of the bed and make you seem like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Instead of simply describing the feel of the dreamcloud mattress customer reviews to you, I wished to offer a graph of where someone may feel pressure points form while pushing it. To do this, I positioned a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image listed below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

Back– When on my back, my weight was uniformly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t seem like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover supplied quality relief at my back region and the pocketed coils assisted to raise me from the bed and keep my spinal column in positioning.

Side– As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach– Changing over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did an excellent job of raising my hips up and from the bed, which is essential for stomach sleepers. I need to mention that I had the ability to shift throughout these positions with relative ease.

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll would like to know what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around in the evening. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To illustrate this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and determined the disruption it triggered: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

Outcomes for the movement transfer test with a 10 pound ball dropped from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches.

The DreamCloud reveals a percentage of disruption for the 4 inch drop, which replicates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal somewhat bigger spikes, I ‘d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at separating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re not likely to be too disrupted by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, makings this an excellent choice for couples.

When purchasing a new bed, most people wish to know whether they’ll seem like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on the top” of it. To envision this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb conditioning ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb conditioning ball, and a 100 pound conditioning ball) on the mattress and determined just how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are indicated to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers.

DreamCloud Sinkage Test

The sinkage test on a DreamCloud mattress with balls weighing 6 pounds, 10 pounds, 50 pounds and 100 pounds.

6 lb conditioning ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll strike the wrapped coils and feel wonderful support. This combo will appeal to a large range of sleepers, but will please back and stomach sleepers in specific.

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be important for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box bed mattress that fail to measure up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

DreamCloud Edge Supprt Back

Resting on my back near the side of the DreamCloud

Pushing my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too significant.

DreamCloud Edge Support Side

Lying on my side near the edge of the DreamCloud

Moving to my side, I when again seen compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t rollover into the wrapped coil system listed below.

This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

DreamCloud Edge Support Seated

Sitting on the edge of the DreamCloud mattress

In this position, I wanted to mimic what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and preparing yourself for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, however the DreamCloud in fact held up relatively well.
