See how the DreamCloud stacks up against other hybrid mattresses!

The DreamCloud includes an astoundingly high profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer building and construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil elements, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and a lot of comfy pressure relief.

Offered all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another.

DreamCloud Cover

Cover– The cover is comprised of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers– Listed below the cover, you’ll find 3 thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and offer some gratifying sinkage, they also react rapidly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress.

The middle of these three layers is especially crucial for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s consisted of perforated latex foam. Latex in basic is fantastic at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations motivates much more cooling.

Pocketed Coils– The bottom layer of foam shifts into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These separately wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and assistance to disperse motion throughout the structure.

The coils also help in regulating temperature level as the areas in between them enable steady air flow.

Foundation Layer– A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the primary function of cradling the stolen coils and offering a sound structure for the whole.

dream cloud mattress complaintsFIRMNESS

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and right away felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers.

My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in even more, I started to connect with the taken coils listed below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

Pushing into the DreamCloud mattress

At this moment I want to keep in mind that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Instead of offering simply my viewpoint on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted 3 other individuals to give their opinion as well.

This will offer you a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

DreamCloud Firmness Test

Showing the firmness scores of the DreamCloud from four testers

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in arrangement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, offering it a typical rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally offered the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam leading layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will raise you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Rather than just describing the feel of the dream cloud mattress complaints to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone might feel pressure points form while pushing it. To do this, I positioned a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image listed below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

DreamCloud Pressure Map

Back– As soon as on my back, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t seem like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my back area and the swiped coils assisted to raise me from the bed and keep my spine in positioning.

Side– As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. I still felt supported and the top foam layers reduced what pain I felt in this position.

Stomach– Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of raising my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I had the ability to shift throughout these positions with relative ease.

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know exactly what it’ll seem like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is planned to show the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other.

To highlight this movement transfer, I dropped a 10 lb. steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disruption it triggered: the larger the lines, the bigger the disruption.

Results for the movement transfer test with a 10 lb ball dropped from heights of 4, 8 and 12 inches.

The DreamCloud reveals a small amount of disruption for the 4 inch drop, which mimics somebody rolling around and changing their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I ‘d still consider the mattress to be respectable at isolating movement, thanks to the separately wrapped coils. This means you’re not most likely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, makings this a terrific alternative for couples.

When purchasing a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To envision this sinkage, I positioned 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb conditioning ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb conditioning ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured just how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are implied to mimic various body parts and different sized sleepers.

DreamCloud Sinkage Test

The sinkage test on a DreamCloud mattress with balls weighing 6 lbs, 10 pounds, 50 pounds and 100 pounds.

6 pound medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
50 pound medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the covered coils and feel wonderful support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, however will please back and stomach sleepers in particular.

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and have to use the whole area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m specifically interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box bed mattress that cannot live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring designs.

DreamCloud Edge Supprt Back

Lying on my back near the side of the DreamCloud

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I carried out in the center. Pushing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the fact that of the top foam layers, but absolutely nothing too dramatic.

DreamCloud Edge Support Side

Lying on my side near the edge of the DreamCloud

Moving to my side, I as soon as again noticed compression in the foam layers, however it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system below.

This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a terrific job of supporting my weight.

DreamCloud Edge Support Seated

Sitting on the edge of the DreamCloud mattress

In this position, I wanted to imitate exactly what it would seem like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and preparing for the day. A great deal of foam mattresses experience serious compression in this position, however the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
